Ol Dirty Bastard & Crazy Sam - “Freestyle” (199?)
What the fuck is happening here? What is that beat? Some unreleased RZA thing? It’s gotta be RZA, right? Crazy Sam is looking at Dirt like wait maybe I don’t deserve this name.
10 YEARS AGO TODAY |3/25/03| The Diplomats released their debut album, Diplomatic Immunity on Def Jam Records.

As the year winds down and the Sound Pellegrino Podcast approaches its 100th episode (nothing special planned for the moment), I thought I should give my partners Orgasmic & Teki Latex the Tuesday off and provide for this holiday week. It’s not club music and it’s not new at all. It’s not underground either (there’s even a song from “Rocky”) but it’s really good and it’s a faithful sample of what I felt and listened to over this year while working for the label.
Tracklisting:
- Frank Stallone — “Take You Back”
- Vanilla Fudge — “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”
- Nazz — “Forget All About It”
- T. Rex — “My Little Baby”
- Supertramp — “Travelled”
- The Hollies — “Man Without A Heart”
- Cat Stevens — “Sitting”
- City Boy — “The Day The Earth Caught Fire”
- The Move — “Message From The Country”
- ELO — “Jungle”
- T. Rex — “Theme For A Dragon”
- The Association — “Windy”
- The Jam — “Heat Wave”
- Timi Yuro — “If I Never Get To Love You”
- The Monkees — “Randy Scouse Git”
- Cream — “Doing That Scrapyard Thing”
- 10cc — “Don’t Turn Me Away”
- T. Rex — “All Alone”
These are two sets of songs I played separately on David Blot’s show Le Nova Club on June 8th (songs 01 to 10) & December 21st (songs 11 to 18). It’s mostly about attraction, rejection, torment, isolation, regret, anger, revenge, acceptance and a general sense of community which in retrospect have more to do with the experience of pride than the effects of broad love. 2012 was a year full of emotions, most of them positive and some of them new. This goes out to those who caused them and I wish a very happy new year to all my friends and non-friends.

PS: the Nova shows weren’t recorded and this is not mixed. I’ve just dragged all the songs into Garage Band and put them in the same order so bear with me, it won’t happen more than once a year. And sorry for all the sax.
PPS: all the T. Rex songs come from the same album, “Futuristic Dragon”, which is WAY better than its title suggests.
